Reflective Essay
Intro
My name is Jason Rittenbach and I came to ACLC in 8th grade. I was not a very talkative person back then due to the fact that I had just come to a new school. I tried my best to fit in and It had worked for the most part. I just kept my head down and went along with my school stuff. During 8th grade year, I had made a friend. Little did I know that this friendship would last till the present. ACLC has changed my life for the better.
Personal Vision
In 20 years I see myself staying at home as a stay-at-home husband/Dad. In all seriousness though I would like to be a state at home person. If my significant other is making money, than I will gladly stay home and maintain our house. |

The Boarding Stuff RESPONCIBILITY This year I was left on my own more often than normal. Because of this, I had to manage my time of sleep, time of wake, and my transportation. These became increasingly easy as the year went on, but at first, they were challenging. My means of transportation was my own two feet. I would walk to and from school and work the majority of the time. At the beginning of the year, it was a real challenge. I was walking 5 miles a day and by the end of the first week, I had blisters on my feet. Despite this I was able to ‘walk it off’ pun intended. I still frequently walk to and from school and work. Waking up at 6:30 was a challenge at first because I was just getting off summer break. I would wake up at noon and go to bed at 3 am. It was fun while it lasted but I knew it couldn’t last. So I started to go to sleep earlier and wake up before noon. I eventually worked my way to going to bed at 10 and waking up at 6:30. I still loathe waking up, but it is a necessary evil. SELF-MANAGEMENT Throughout the school year, I have been juggling school and work like many others my age. I have never been late to work, but I have been a little late to school at times. On a Wednesday night, I was at work and realized that I had to walk home. My boss wanted me to stay late and so I stayed 30 minutes late and then walked home. Once I got home I remembered that my dad was out of town, so I made myself dinner. After that, I went to bed around 10:45. I then woke up at 8:30 which is the time school started. I realized I wouldn’t be able to make it to my first-period class and I would be late to the second period. I then got up, made breakfast, showered, and started to walk. It took me an hour to get to school but I had made it. GEOGRAPHY I always found it interesting to learn about maps and countries. In 6th grade at my old school, we would have a geography class 2 times a week and every time I was in that class, I found myself enjoying and frequently asking questions. This was my favorite class in middle school, and I wish I had taken more classes like that. Fitness and Health When I was younger I think I was fat though I am not sure. I never really exercised, except for the occasional walk and run for PE. After a while, I realized that I was unhealthy and decided I would try to do something about it. I joined ACLC’s frisbee team, Junior Meat. I went to practice every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We would run, do drills, and scrimmage against each other to practice for games. Then I joined Dark meat, which was the Highschool frisbee team. They had much more intense practices. We would frequently do conditioning, whether it was running or planking. We ended up doing good in the tournaments and I decided I would continue next year, which I ended up doing. KNOWS HOW TO LEARN Throughout my years working as a student at ACLC I have taken many classes, which is to be expected, but I also took a few college classes. All of them being ASL. ASL was a very difficult class. It was a whole new language that had nothing to do with sound. Another part that made it difficult was the fact that the teacher was deaf, meaning that we couldn’t communicate with them without writing or learning ASL. This made learning a challenge, but also gave us a reason to practice and learn ASL. The next year, once I passed the class, I went back to take ASL 2. The teacher was also deaf and much more strict. Nevertheless, I still learned and passed the class. DECISION-MAKING Right now is a pivotal point in my life. I’m turning 18 soon and it seems like I'm going to be going to college. Right now I'm just trying to find a college that will accept me, but after I get into one of them, I don’t know what to do. In the future, I'm going to be making a life-changing decision that will end in good or bad. I can only hope that it will end well EXERCISES LEADERSHIP I lead a small group at ACLC during CCC because I am in leadership. Every Wednesday I and 2 other students are in 11th grade. I typically try to take lead and help guide the group of 30 in the correct direction during CCC. This past Wednesday we were making a CCC plan as a CCC and I held a vote and had one of my co-leader. We ended up choosing dodgeball as our CCC, but then Molly (the leadership teacher) told us we couldn’t do that. So now we are going to plan for debates over inconsequential topics. APPLIES TECHNOLOGY TO TASK Throughout the school year, I have needed to write papers through the internet. While writing these papers I’ve been online and have had to browse the web to find answers and other such things. To do this I need to have a basic understanding of the internet. Because I frequent places like YouTube and other websites I have a more than a basic understanding of the Internet as well as my computer. |
